How do I tell if my vehicle is equipped with Keyless Entry?
The best way is to call your local dealer and ask them. There are other ways such as reading the vehicles options codes or putting it into program mode but the most foolproof way is to check with the dealer. Click here to find a local dealer.
Is it difficult to program a Keyless Entry Remote?
Not at all. Some of these procedures have quite a few steps but the best method for programming is to just take them one at a time, instead of trying to memorize the entire procedure all at once.
How many Remotes can I program to my vehicle? Won't my old ones be erased?
Most Manufacturers allow for up to 4 remotes per vehicle. Some vehicles will require all the Remotes to be present while programming but your old remotes can be reprogrammed at that time.
The Dealer said I can't program my remote myself, I have to use their scan tool?
Yes, this sometimes is the case. Mostly GM cars, Chrysler, Hyundai, Kias and newer Proximity (Smart) Keys need a scan tool to program. This is not a complete list by any means but the good news is that just about every other vehicle make has an on board procedure.
My vehicle did not come equipped from the factory with keyless entry, is it possible to add a factory RKE system?
In some cases your local dealer can install a factory keyless entry system into your vehicle.
My remote stopped working, can I just replace the battery?
Yes, if the battery went dead, in most cases you can just replace it. Sometimes you will have to reprogram the remote as well.
