If you don't have any luck with the Smart Lock feature I would recommend having a steel key cut (very cheaply) to use as a spare for the doors. Any hardware store or Walmart should be able to do this for you. You just won't be able to start the engine with it. Good Luck Hi John,

Our biggest problem with the logic in our 2007 Ford Focus is locking the keys in the car. When the temperature is -30 and we want to warm the car up unattended, the key is in the ignition, engine running, power door lock button is pressed to lock the doors with one door open...and then closed. The key fob is now for some reason rendered inactive. Now we are stranded outside with our key fob in -30 weather while our car runs for hours until someone can get there with another key. I've tried using the Key Fob to lock the doors but anytime the key is in the ignition with the engine running the key fob is rendered useless.
