Ihad to take my 2000continental to the dealer because my keyless pad wasn't working , but it was turning the dome light on so it ran down the battery, so I have no choice but to get it so called replaced for the third tome since 2002 and the last time was 2 years ago. Any input on what's going on or what I need to do? thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi Mike,
I just installed an after market RKE on my 2006 Mazda2, only to find that the anti theft system disables the Central Locking Unit after about a minute similar to the Power Door Lock Inhibit Feature. Do you know if on the Mazda this can be disabled via an onboard procedure?

Hi John,

Actually I don't think this is that uncommon, I have seen a number of vehicles that disable the fob while the engine is running. If you don't have any luck with the Smart Lock feature I would recommend having a steel key cut (very cheaply) to use as a spare for the doors.

Any hardware store or Walmart should be able to do this for you. You just won't be able to start the engine with it.

Good Luck

Mike, Great description of some hard to find info. Our biggest problem with the logic in our 2007 Ford Focus is locking the keys in the car. When the temperature is -30 and we want to warm the car up unattended, the key is in the ignition, engine running, power door lock button is pressed to lock the doors with one door open...and then closed. The key fob is now for some reason rendered inactive. Now we are stranded outside with our key fob in -30 weather while our car runs for hours until someone can get there with another key. I've tried using the Key Fob to lock the doors but anytime the key is in the ignition with the engine running the key fob is rendered useless. I'm going to try enabling the Smart lock feature (if the focus has it). As per your description, the key fob should work to lock the car. Any experience with this?

Hi Sergie,

The first thing I would do is look in the owners manual for a little card that has the code on it. If the card is missing you can usually find the code located on a computer module inside the vehicle, there should be a white sticker with it printed on there.

I'm not 100% positive where it is on the 07's but on an 04-05, I know that you can find it behind the panel that is behind the passenger rear seat. (the seat belt passes through) It might be in the same spot for your 07.

Good Luck

If you have keypad outside on your door to unlock and to lock the vehicle, how do you retrieve that code or programm new code, if you don't know the original manufacture code? It's a 2007 Ford Explorer, but most Ford and Mercury have same keyless entry pad on the door.

Thanks, Sergie
